Identity theft
How to detect a suspicious request
How does this type of fraud start?
Someone close to you contacts you via Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram or another social network. This person says their phone has been blocked and that you are the only person who can immediately help them.
How does this type of fraud work?
To unblock their phone, they say they need to enter codes on TWINT. However, they can't do this because their phone is blocked. So they ask you to enter these codes on your own TWINT app. Each code entered and validated on TWINT generates an immediate payment.
How can you protect yourself?
- As soon as you see the first suspicious message, call the person immediately to make sure they are the source of the message.
- Read the information carefully when you enter a code on TWINT.
- Be wary of any urgent financial requests.
- If in doubt, contact us immediately at +41 58 211 21 00.
- Never share your bank details (login, password, CrontoSign code, activation letter or card details) with anyone. Neither the police nor the Bank should ask you for this information.
- Remember that remote individuals could attempt to steal your identity by impersonating a friend, family member, police officer, your banker, etc.
