Paypal / Revolut registration forms
How to detect a fake form
How does this type of fraud start?
You’re looking to sell an item online (Facebook Marketplace, Anibis, Ricardo, etc.). A buyer tells you that he is very interested and has already sent you the money for the item on a payment platform (Paypal, Revolut, etc.). He invites you to register using a simplified form.
How does this type of fraud work?
When you indicate that you do not have an account on the platform referenced by the buyer, he suggests you register using a simplified form in which you must enter personal details such as your:
- Surname, first name
- Mobile number
- Netbanking contract # and password
You then receive a call from someone pretending to confirm your registration. This person asks you to send him a PIN code received by text message. This PIN code, sent by BCGE TWINT, actually enables the fraudster to steal your TWINT account.
How can you protect yourself?
- Immediately hang up.
- Never create an account at the request of a third party.
- Never give out your TWINT PIN code.
- Contact us immediately at +41 58 211 21 00.
- Never share your bank details (login, password, CrontoSign code, activation letter or card details) with anyone. Neither the police nor the Bank should ask you for this information.
- Never act under stress or in a hurry.
- Remember that remote individuals could attempt to steal your identity by impersonating a friend, family member, police officer, your banker, etc.
