Precautions to take to ensure secure online shopping
How does this type of fraud start?
You’re looking to buy an item online and you find an unbeatable offer.
How does this type of fraud work?
The seller tells you he has already received multiple requests for the item and that if you want it, you must pay for it as soon as possible before someone else beats you to it. He assures that you he will send it to you by post as soon as he receives your payment.
Once you’ve paid, the seller disappears and so does your money.
How can you protect yourself?
- Never pay in advance when buying from a private individual.
- Only trust recognised online shopping sites.
- Be wary of any urgent financial requests.
- If in doubt, contact us immediately at +41 58 211 21 00.
- Never share your bank details (login, password, CrontoSign code, activation letter or card details) with anyone. Neither the police, the Bank nor anyone else should ask you for this information.
- Remember that remote individuals could attempt to steal your identity by impersonating a friend, family member, police officer, your banker, etc.
